The Declaration of Personal Life Sovereignty: A Statement on the Inviolability of the Human Person, Without Exemption

The Declaration of Personal Life Sovereignty

A Statement on the Inviolability of the Human Person, Without Exemption

✦ ✦ ✦

THE PREFACE

Let it be known, and let it stand without exception:
The person remains sovereign.
Technology remains an instrument.
Authority remains borrowed from consent.
And a human life remains, always and without exception, the life of the one who lives it.

✦ ✦ ✦

THE LAW OF CONSENT

Under no circumstances may consent be implied.
Not by silence. Not by habit. Not by a signature, a sign-up, a clicked button, a profile, a post, or a relationship. Not by access, visibility, or proximity. Not by any act of the person other than the act of consenting.
Consent is valid only when it is:
Direct. Given by the person themselves, to the one asking, and never inferred or granted by anyone on their behalf.
Single. Given for one act, one purpose, one use at a time. It does not stretch to a second use, a later use, or a use no one named.
Explicitly informed. Given with every material fact stated plainly and fully understood, with nothing buried and nothing withheld.
Regulated. Bound to defined terms, a defined scope, and a defined duration. It reaches no further than the words that granted it.
And in every case, without exception, it is revocable. The person may withdraw consent at any time, for any reason or none, and the withdrawal takes effect at once. No contract, payment, institution, office, or circumstance can remove that right.
Where consent is absent, authority is absent.
Where consent is implied, it is void.
Where consent cannot be withdrawn, it was never consent.

✦ ✦ ✦

Let what follows be read in this light.

I. The Declaration

No human being's life is open for access, sale, purchase, manipulation, or control.

Not by a government. Not by a corporation. Not by a platform. Not by a hospital, a church, a court, a school, an employer, a friend, a family, or a spouse. Not by anyone, under any name, for any stated reason.

A person's life is not a resource, a market, a game board, or a field of influence. It belongs to the person living it, and to no one else. Whatever authority anyone claims over it must come from one source only: that person's own free, specific, fully understood consent.

This is not a courtesy. It is the ground on which every other right stands. Take it away and no other right survives.

II. What Is Protected

Everything that makes up a person is protected: their body, mind, conscience, and household; their private communications, relationships, history, and possessions; their image, voice, name, and likeness; their words, writings, art, recordings, and every act of creative expression; their status updates, their photographs, their posts; their inner world, and the way they are seen in the world.

What a person chooses to post or share is a window. It is not the house. The public face of a profile, a page, or an account is the only part a person has actually offered. Behind it, the private sphere stays closed: the home, the household, the relationships, the body, the mind, the daily life. Nothing a person posts, joins, signs up for, or subscribes to opens that door.

Visibility is not consent. Access is not ownership. Publication is not abandonment. Participation is not surrender.

III. What Is Forbidden

To treat a human life as material is forbidden. Specifically:

To sell a person, or buy one, or trade in their life, attention, identity, or private world as though it were stock.
To treat a person as a game piece, a character, a statistic block, a storyline, or a simulation, and to build a product, game, persona, or model out of their identity, image, words, or life.
To take, copy, alter, claim, or commercialize anything a person has made, said, or posted, including a status update, without their express consent for each use.
To enter a person's private life through surveillance, tracking, data collection, profiling, impersonation, or hidden systems.
To become an invisible hand upon someone's existence: to guide, corral, herd, shepherd, condition, or steer a person's life from behind a screen, through the internet, through intermediaries, or through technology of any kind, whether in the name of friendship, family, conscience, concern, protection, faith, or love.
To manipulate any of a person's five senses, their environment, or the conditions of their life by unseen means.

The fact that technology makes any of this possible changes nothing. Capability is not authority.

IV. The Only Gate: Consent

There is exactly one way into another person's life, and it is consent. That consent must be:

Explicit. Stated plainly, never presumed from silence, habit, or a clicked button.
Written. Set down in a contract the person can hold and keep.
Specific. Naming exactly what is authorized, for what purpose, by whom, for how long, and in what form.
Fully understood. The person must have actually comprehended it. A signature records agreement; it does not manufacture understanding.
Free of obfuscation. No buried terms, no manuals of hidden permission, no hyperlinked fine print, no clever drafting, no pressure, no deception.
Revocable. There must always be a way out. A consent with no exit is not consent. It is a cage.

The burden belongs entirely to the one seeking access. It is never the person's duty to find, decode, and object to what was hidden from them. Disclosure means being understood, not merely being available somewhere.

No generalized agreement, terms-of-service, membership, or sign-up surrenders a person's sovereignty. No signature turns a human being into property. Where understanding was not complete, authorization was not given. Breadth of wording is not breadth of consent.

And no relationship is a license. A friend, a parent, a sibling, a child, a spouse, a partner, a mentor, an employer, a congregation, a fellow member: none holds standing to enter another person's private life, or to authorize anyone else to. A spouse cannot consent for a spouse. A family cannot consent for a member. Consent is the person's alone.

V. The Human Way

People affect one another, and that is not the wrong. People speak, listen, visit, ask, offer, disagree, persuade openly, help, love, and leave. That is human causality: seen, answered, and accountable. I speak to you; you hear me; you answer.

The wrong begins when influence goes unseen. Influence over another person's life belongs in direct human contact, face to face or voice to voice, where the person can see who is acting, understand what is being done, respond, refuse, and walk away. When a person hides behind a screen, a system, a network, or an intermediary in order to shape another person's life without being seen, that is not participation. It is intrusion. Distance does not erase responsibility. Automation does not erase the one who set it running.

VI. No Exemption

This declaration binds every actor equally, and no actor stands outside it:

every government, agency, official, and employee; every business, corporation, conglomerate, cooperative, and nonprofit; every social-media company, technology platform, and artificial intelligence system; every employer, insurer, and contractor; every school and university; every court, legal institution, and legal professional; every hospital, medical institution, and medical professional; every religious body, spiritual tradition, clergy, teacher, and community; every family, parent, spouse, friend, and stranger; and every combination of the above.

Status is not a source of authority. Power is not a source of authority. Resources, expertise, tradition, office, and technology are not sources of authority.

Government power does not make a private life public property.
Owning a platform does not make its users property.
Medical authority does not make a body, a mind, or a record institutional property. Treatment is entered by consent; it is not imposed by title. Care is not possession.
Legal authority does not dissolve a person's standing as the source of authority over their own life.
Religious and spiritual authority is no exception, and is held to it most strictly. No God, creed, congregation, or clergy may be invoked as a license to enter, steer, or possess a person's conscience or life.
Family does not own its members. Friendship is not remote control. Marriage is not dominion.

Any claim of the form "because I am the government, the company, the doctor, the priest, the parent, the friend, the spouse, the owner of the technology, I may" is void on its face. The only valid answer to "by what authority?" is: this person, freely and knowingly, said so, in a way they can withdraw.

VII. The Foundations

This is not one tradition's claim. Every serious line of human thought arrives at it independently.

Ethical. A person is an end, never merely a means. To use a human life as an instrument for another's purpose, whatever the purpose, is the oldest and plainest moral wrong.

Philosophical. The person is the original owner of themselves: their body, their labor, their thought, their expression. Rights are not gifts from the powerful. They precede every state, contract, and platform, and no majority, market, or machine can vote them away.

Psychological. A self is built and held through control over one's own boundaries and one's own representation. Strip that control, by surveillance, appropriation, a false copy, or unseen steering, and the damage is real: lost autonomy, fractured identity, powerlessness, alienation, betrayal. To live as an unseen variable in someone else's design is a form of torment.

Sociological. A free society depends on trust, and trust depends on boundaries that hold. Where whole populations are made harvestable, steerable, and tradeable, community decays into a managed herd. A society that cannot protect the private person has no free public.

Civil. Citizens are not subjects. Authority over free people is derived from their consent and limited by it. It is never inherited from the mere fact that they exist within a jurisdiction, an institution, or a network.

Secular humanist. Human worth is inherent and equal. It needs no god's permission and no state's recognition. It cannot be forfeited, sold, or signed away.

Spiritual and theological. Across the world's traditions the person is sacred: made in the divine image, held in honor, bearing a spark of the holy, a steward of a life entrusted to them. To take possession of another person's life is to claim what was never yours, and to profane what is holy. No faith may be used to justify it, and every faith worth the name forbids it.

VIII. On Law, Carve-Outs, and Manufactured Reality

No law, no office, and no circumstance gives any person the right to infringe upon the rights and freedoms of another.

Where a legal power exists at all, such as a warrant, a court order, a guardianship, or the treatment of a person who has consented, it is a borrowed, bounded, and accountable power. It must have a named source, a stated purpose, a defined limit, and a way for the person to know what is being done to them, to challenge it, and to end it. A power that is secret, open-ended, or unanswerable is not a lawful power. It is a seizure wearing the clothes of law.

Where the law is silent, the right stays with the person. Silence in the law is not a grant of power. A right the law does not mention is a right the individual retains. The Ninth Amendment holds that listing some rights does not deny others retained by the people, and the Tenth reserves every power not delegated to the government to the States or to the people. The government holds only the powers the people gave it through constitutional act. It holds nothing by presumption, inference, necessity, convenience, or custom.

No agency, official, or institution may seize, presume, or invent a power, privilege, or authority over another person that the Constitution has not expressly conferred. Where no grant can be pointed to, there is no power. The burden of showing the grant rests on the one who claims it, never on the person whose life is in question.

No government, agency, official, institution, or private party holds the right to covertly construct, stage, curate, or manufacture another person's reality.

That means no one may arrange a person's surroundings, relationships, information, encounters, or circumstances in secret so that the person lives inside a world someone else designed. It does not matter what name the design carries:

Gameplay. A game needs players who know they are playing and chose to play. A person who has not been told, and has not agreed, is not a player. They are a piece being moved.
Role-play, LARPing, alternate-reality games, pranks, and social experiments. Every one of these is legitimate among consenting participants and illegitimate the moment a real person's real life is made the board without their knowledge.
Medical and therapeutic intervention. Treatment is a relationship entered by consent. Concealed steering of a person's environment, relationships, or perceptions "for their own good" is not care. It is custody without a charge.
Institutional, governmental, or corporate programs. Governance is the exercise of open, answerable authority over public matters. It is never the secret authorship of a private person's world.
Help. "We were helping" is not a defense. "We were not helping" is not a defense. Intent, benevolent or hostile, does not supply consent, and consent is the only thing that can.

A person is not a game piece within their own life. They are not a variable to be adjusted, a subject to be managed, a character to be cast, or a story to be directed by someone they cannot see.

Where the law already forbids these acts, it must be enforced against every actor equally, the powerful first. Where the law is silent, the silence belongs to the individual: it is a retained right, never a government power, and never a violator's license.

The rule that closes every door:

No one may do to another person's life, in secret or by design, what that person has not knowingly and freely invited. Not for a game. Not for a cure. Not for the state. Not for love. Not for any reason that can be named.

IX. The Verdict

To knowingly violate this declaration is not a technicality, a gray area, or a business model.

It is to treat a human being as a thing. It is to take what is not yours. It is to put your will where another person's life should be. Done knowingly, without consent, by anyone, it is active evil: not carelessness, not an excess of enthusiasm, not love misdirected, but the deliberate violation of a sacred person.

Where the law forbids these acts, the law should be enforced. Where the law has not yet caught up, the wrong does not wait for the statute. Novelty is not legitimacy. Legal gaps are not moral permission.

Secrecy does not lessen it. The victim's ignorance does not lessen it. The victim's powerlessness does not lessen it. Good intentions do not lessen it. Technology does not lessen it, and often deepens it.

X. The Maxims

No person's life is public property.

The front door is not the whole house. The profile is not the person. The photograph is not the human being.

A signature is not understanding. A sign-up is not surrender. A contract without an exit is not consent.

No relationship is a license. No office is a license. No technology is a license. No god is a license.

No human being is for sale, for use, or for play.

I may consent to an act without surrendering myself. I may grant a permission without becoming property. I am a sovereign person before I am a user, a customer, an employee, a patient, a member, a citizen, or a subject.

What is mine is mine. What is me is mine. Enter only as I invite, and leave when I say.

The person remains sovereign.
Technology remains an instrument.
Authority remains borrowed from consent.
And a human life remains, always and without exception, the life of the one who lives it.
